Nicht der Fahrgast steigt um, sondern die Bahn wechselt ihre Traktion. Es wurden Stadtbahnfahrzeuge entwickelt, die sowohl mit den bei der Stra\u00dfenbahn in Karlsruhe verwendeten 750 Volt Gleichspannung als auch mit der 15.000 Volt Wechselspannung der Deutschen Bahn betrieben werden. Die Infrastruktur der DB Netz AG ist hier das verbindende Glied zwischen Stadt und Region. \u00dcber die Jahre entstand ein dichtes Netz von Stadtbahnstrecken von Karlsruhe bis ins Umland mit direkter Verbindung nach Heilbronn. Heute betreibt die AVG mit ihrem 560 km langen Liniennetz der Stadt- und Stra\u00dfenbahn im Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Neckar Europas gr\u00f6\u00dftes Zweisystem-Stadtbahnnetz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Inzwischen gibt es unterschiedliche Kombinationen der Antriebsarten f\u00fcr diese auch als \u201eTram-Train\u201c bezeichneten Z\u00fcge, die \u00fcberall in der Welt die Stadt mit dem Umland und die Quartiere in den Ballungszentren verbinden.
