Join us on a journey through a few of the projects that DB E&amp;C is working on in the heart of Germany.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-dbec-core-layout-grid  layout-grid layout-grid--outer-margin-small layout-grid--expanded\"><div class=\"grid grid--child-margin-small\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-dbec-core-layout-column  column is-6-small is-6-medium column--expanded\"><div class=\"layout-column\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading headline-h3\"><strong><strong><strong>Frankfurt am Main: making a hub fit for the future<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The list of construction projects in the major transport hub of Frankfurt is long. Deutsche Bahn &nbsp;(DB AG) is working on extensive modernization projects all around the city, including <a href=\"https:\/\/db-engineering-consulting.com\/en\/projects\/frankfurt-central-hub\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Frankfurt Central&nbsp;station<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/db-engineering-consulting.com\/en\/projects\/frankfurt-hub-design-work-for-frankfurt-main-sued-station-ffs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Frankfurt-S\u00fcd<\/a>&nbsp; and the <a href=\"https:\/\/db-engineering-consulting.com\/en\/projects\/frankfurt-am-main-hub-deutschherrn-bridge-feasibility-concept\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Deutschherrn Bridge<\/a>, which is protected as a historic monument. And all this for good reason: The hub is one of the main arteries in the European rail network, with 450,000 travelers passing through each day. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.deutschebahn.com\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">DB AG<\/a> is strengthening the infrastructure throughout the region to ensure that stations, tracks and switches will be able to meet current and future needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At Frankfurt Central, work to gradually increase capacity and space out traffic has been under way since the end of 2021, including removing and renewing the switches in the station apron and separating traffic flows at the station. Trains are being routed through the station based on the direction of travel, reducing crossing conflicts and helping trains to run on time. The platforms are also being extended so that more passengers can make their connections easily. Since regional traffic will be bundled on the north side of the station during the redesign work, DB AG is expanding track 25, which has not been used for traffic in recent years. A new center platform for track 24 and a new platform roof are being built, and new switch connections and technical equipment are being installed. The site of the former maintenance depot 1, southwest of Frankfurt Central, will be redeveloped into a large open space. For this purpose, a branch line is being built at the Schlachthof grade separation structure, the switch connections at the west and east ends of the station are being optimized, and incoming and outgoing trains are being grouped based on direction. We have also been commissioned by <a href=\"https:\/\/fahrweg.dbnetze.com\/fahrweg-en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">DB Netz<\/a> &nbsp;to study how to increase space between existing track centers at the Deutschherrn Bridge, which crosses the Main River in Frankfurt&#8217;s Sachsenhausen district. DB E&amp;C&#8217;s responsibilities in all of these projects have included <a href=\"https:\/\/db-engineering-consulting.com\/en\/productportfolio\/design\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">project design<\/a>&nbsp;on lines and transport facilities and creation of <a href=\"https:\/\/db-engineering-consulting.com\/en\/insights\/bim-building-information-modeling\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">as-built models<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/db-engineering-consulting.com\/en\/productportfolio\/environmental-and-geo-services\/#geotechnics\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">geotechnical investigations<\/a> &nbsp;and <a href=\"https:\/\/db-engineering-consulting.com\/en\/productportfolio\/environmental-and-geo-services\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">environmental analyses<\/a>. We have also developed solutions for recycling, remediation and <a href=\"https:\/\/db-engineering-consulting.com\/en\/productportfolio\/environmental-and-geo-services\/#waste-and-contaminated-sites\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">disposal&nbsp; <\/a>for the demolition of the former maintenance depot. The upgrades are part of the joint FrankfurtRheinMainplus project of &nbsp;the State of Hesse, the City of Frankfurt am Main, the Rhine-Main Transit Authority and Deutsche Bahn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading headline-h3\"><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong>A station for the new airport terminal<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.frankfurt-airport.com\/de.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Frankfurt Airport<\/a> is one of the largest airports in Europe, with more than 70 million air travelers a year. A <a href=\"https:\/\/db-engineering-consulting.com\/en\/projects\/regional-and-local-connection-to-the-new-passenger-terminal-3-at-frankfurt-airport\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">third terminal<\/a> is scheduled to open in 2025, and passenger volume is expected to grow to 86 million by 2030 \u2013 which will have an impact on rail traffic. Estimates have some 95,000 additional passengers traveling each workday, two-thirds of them by rail. That is why the new terminal will have its own regional train station. Four kilometers of new line will be built by 2030. Expansion of the high-speed network, which will also include construction of several computer-based rail signaling systems, will make passenger transport more efficient during the day and strengthen freight transport at night. DB is modernizing 100 kilometers of line, 115 switches, eleven bridges and 75 stations in the two states. It will recruit 130 new engineers and skilled workers for upgrades and maintenance. New rail lines are being built, and the infrastructure destroyed by flooding in the summer of 2021 is being restored at full speed.
