67 km section of high-speed line in the Baltic
At the beginning of July 2019, DB E&C signed a contract in Riga to deliver the detailed technical design for the Rail Baltica section from Vangaži through Salaspils to Misa in Latvia. This 67 km section of high-speed line includes 33 road and railway viaducts, 11 bridges (including a large bridge over the River Daugava), two pedestrian crossings and three ecoducts.
In addition to DB E&C, the French company Egis Rail and the Latvian company Olimps are contributing their engineering services to the design project, thus optimizing passenger and freight transport in the Baltic states. The term for implementing the project is 24 months, starting in July 2019, followed by a 60-month phase of supervising the design.
Rail Baltica connects the Baltic states of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia directly to the European high-speed rail network. The project is being commissioned by Latvia’s Ministry of Transport, with 85% of the funding necessary being provided by the European Union.
Michael Ahlgrimm, Executive Director Europe and Middle East at DB Engineering and Consulting, said: “We look forward to successfully continuing our partnership with Rail Baltica and are proud to be part of this important European project. The fact that we, as a European consortium from France, Latvia and Germany, are joining forces in the design process is also a strong symbol of European cohesion.”
