Sydney Metro – first part of extensive testing program concluded successfully

Experts from DB E&C are advising on questions related to systems technology and the Metro trains themselves in what is currently the largest public infrastructure project involving a fully automatic subway system. 

As part of the project, the first Metro trains were thoroughly inspected at the Sydney Metro depot in Rouse Hill. Various tests, including standard system checks across all components, and initial runs were performed successfully in multiple phases. 

Sydney Metro Northwest, running from Rouse Hill to Chatswood, will start operating in 2019 as the first section of the Metro system. The Northwest section is part of a 66 km-long subway line with 31 stops that will run under the Sydney Harbor to Bankstown via the Central Business District (CBD) once the second phase is complete. 

A second line – Sydney Metro West – running from the CBD to Parramatta via Bays Precinct and Olympic Park is in the planning phase.
