We are delighted to welcome Andrea Bertallot as new CEO at DB E&C. Since January 1, she has taken over the chair in addition to the German Market. As her remarkable management of the domestic market has demonstrated, her ability to drive success and innovation makes her the perfect choice as the successor of Niko Warbanoff. What better way to start a new chapter than with a Q&A?

In the foreseeable future, are there any significant challenges you expect for the domestic market?
“In Germany, we are facing major tasks as part of the general refurbishment of the high-capacity corridors, starting with the Riedbahn project in 2024. These will be intense times with major challenges, but we are well prepared to support this ambitious undertaking.”
What are your plans for the international development of DB Engineering & Consulting?
“I believe that we can only meet the challenges and growing needs in the field of mobility and at the same time reduce our CO2 footprint by strengthening rail as a mode of transport. With our projects we will therefore continue to make our contribution to a strong rail system and help promote the decarbonization of transport, not only in Germany but worldwide. The positioning of the DB E.C.O. Group as a full-service provider is of immense help and enables us to use existing synergies in our engineering resources. This way, we can intensify the mutual exchange of technology and knowledge between our subsidiaries and further intertwine our domestic and international branches.”
As new CEO to one of the biggest engineering companies in Europe, how do you feel? How are you approaching your new job?
“I am lucky to start my new position at a great time: Our services are more in demand than ever and, above all, highly valued, as it has become increasingly clear in recent months how important good, professional engineering is for the success of infrastructure projects. And based on my experience with our team, I can confidently say that we can meet those needs. This makes me proud and is all the more reason to approach my duties with a great deal of enthusiasm and optimism. I am convinced that working as a team truly enhances everyone’s potential and have therefore always appreciated the exchanges with my colleagues in the management team Dr. Ulla Kopp, Stefan Geisperger and Jeroen Hansmann as well as the entire DB E&C team. I look very much forward to continue working together in the future.”
Can you share a defining mantra that you have followed in your career?
“Focusing on quality and meaningful contributions will always be the cornerstone of success.”
