This DB team consists of 24 people who represent “their” countries and their fellow employees with their dedication to and enthusiasm for the greenest European Football Championship ever. From all the DB applicants, Andrii Romanovskyi was chosen as one of the DB EURO Stars, representing both his home country of Ukraine and the DB E.C.O. Group.
It was a perfect fit for Andrii, a football fan who came to Germany four years ago. As a BIM and data management consultant at DB E&C in Hanover, he mainly works with drones: Planning their flights, flying them, and processing the data they collect. Though he was not directly involved in preparations for the tournament, his work is essential in ensuring the smooth operation of rail services during the event and beyond. DB will not only play an important role as an official UEFA national partner, but also by providing mobility for guests from all over Europe as around 10 million fans are expected in Germany.
In addition to his professional achievements, Andrii’s personal journey adds a unique dimension to his participation. Having moved from Ukraine in 2020, he has faced the challenges of being away from his homeland due to the ongoing conflict. So for Andrii, it’s not just about football; it’s about embracing freedom, diversity, and solidarity as part of the European spirit. Those are values that are described in the DB campaign as “DB’s most European team ever”.
In May 2024, most of the DB EURO Stars met for the first time in person in Berlin. This two-day kick-off event included a meeting with DB CEO Richard Lutz and Daniela Gerd tom Markotten, Member of the Management Board for Digitalization and Technology, a tour of the Olympic Stadium, and a Q&A session with Fabian Reese and Toni Leistner, stars of the Berlin football club Hertha BSC. And of course, there were lots of chances to talk with the other team members, which was a real highlight for Romanovskyi: “It was very interesting for me to talk to people from all over DB from so many different backgrounds and home countries. That showed me how international DB is.”
The team will soon have a chance to put their ideas to work as the main act for the DB EURO Stars begins on June 14, when it’s time to kick off EURO 2024!
