In late December 2019, DB Engineering & Consulting, together with its partners Egis Rail and Egis Batiments, signed the contract with Eiropas Dzelzceļa līnijas (EDZL) for BIM design expertise and construction supervision of Riga Central station, which is part of the Rail Baltica Global Project. The project is to be implemented within a period of five years.
Riga Central Station serves as the main hub for the Rail Baltica Global Project. The scope of work will be to rebuild all existing railway tracks, passenger platforms and building structures of the station, expanding it to the needs of Rail Baltica and developing it as a multimodal transport terminal. It will also include the construction of a new railway bridge over the Daugava River with convenient lanes for pedestrians and cyclists, as well as the demolition of the existing railway embankment. Those will be replaced by an overpass to create free areas for urban infrastructure connections.
Vincent van Houten, Regional Director Eastern Europe at DB Engineering & Consulting, commented: “We are thankful for the unique opportunity to participate in this major European project and to intensify our cooperation with the Rail Baltica Project. We look forward to working together in the years to come.”
