DB Rail Academy training programs

DB Rail Academy, the international training provider of DB Engineering & Consulting, has established itself as a leading provider of education and training programs in the transport and mobility sector. It offers a comprehensive range of courses to help specialists and managers around the world improve their qualifications. In doing so, it contributes to strengthening the global competence of the DB Group.    

Its focus is on the transfer of knowledge in the areas of infrastructure, vehicle technology, maintenance, operation, digitalization and logistics. In addition to teaching technical skills, it also develops sustainable business strategies and innovative mobility solutions that are geared towards the challenges of the future. 

The activities of DB Rail Academy now cover 38 countries. For instance, it currently trains approximately 120 Saudi Railways employees in Germany, while also conducting programs in Indonesia, Latvia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and China. Further, it advises transport companies and institutions worldwide, such as Irish Railways and Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe on training management, Azerbaijan Railways (ADY) and the Balkan states on setting up a railroad academy, trains railroad managers in Dubai and Brazil and supports simulator training in Uruguay. 

The DB Rail Academy plays a vital role in training specialists for the DB Group in Germany. A notable example is the apprenticeship program for train drivers in Egypt, designed for DB Regio and DB Fernverkehr. In collaboration with the Egyptian National Railways (ENR) and the Egyptian Ministry of Transport, this initiative provides experienced train drivers’ assistants with 16 months of intensive language and technical training.

In June 2024, the first group of newly trained train drivers arrived in Germany for their practical training. The second group, consisting of approximately 50 participants, began their training in September 2024 and is expected to start working in Germany in early 2026. Meanwhile, a similar training program was launched in Bangalore, India, in September 2024, where around 50 train drivers are being prepared for employment in Germany.

It enables specialists and managers to prepare themselves ideally for the requirements of tomorrow and creates the basis for a sustainable and future-oriented transport infrastructure.
