Multimodal Rail Baltica terminal at Muuga port, Estonia

In the port of Muuga (Estonia), a trimodal terminal (sea, road, rail) with a connection to the Rail Baltica rail link (from Warsaw via Kaunas and Riga to Tallinn – with connection to Helsinki by ferry or tunnel) is to be built in 2025. The terminal is to integrate the two railway gauges 1435 and 1520 and will handle the emerging transport volume by sea, road and rail.

Scope of services:

  • DB E&C was responsible for the analysis of the technical and spatial requirements of the multimodal terminal with the following subtasks:
    • Derivation of the terminal functions
    • Derivation of the technical specifications
    • Site evaluation
    • Development of the technical layout
  • Furthermore, DB E&C was involved in the following work packages:
    • Demand analysis
    • Determination of the business model
    • Definition of the technical and operational concept
    • Implementation of the cost-benefit analysis
    • Development of a 2D and 3D representation for the terminal
