Comprehensive Design and Supervision Services
Under the new 96-month framework agreement, DB E&C will provide comprehensive design and design supervision services for the railway section extending from the Kaunas Urban Node to the Polish State Border. The project involves developing a modern double-track, electrified standard gauge (1435 mm) railway line with all related infrastructure components. This contract encompasses both the initial design preparation phase and ongoing supervision throughout the implementation period.
This latest contract builds upon DB E&C’s substantial portfolio of work across the Baltic States. The company’s previous involvement includes developing a comprehensive business plan with economic frameworks and long-term financial planning perspectives for Rail Baltica implementation. DB E&C has also provided project management and detailed planning for the combined railway/road bridge over the Daugava River, utilizing advanced BIM methodology for the Vangazi-Misa section.
Additional projects have included infrastructure development plans for both the Kaunas-Vilnius and Kaunas-Polish border planning sections, conceptual planning for the Salaspils freight terminal, and technical analysis of the multimodal Muuga terminal in Estonia.

Vision for Sustainable Transportation
“We’re proud to continue our eight-year involvement in the Rail Baltica Global Project, contributing our expertise to strengthen European rail connectivity,” said Stefan Geisperger. “Working alongside our partners, we’re developing modern, electrified railway infrastructure that will connect the Baltic States with Central Europe through a sustainable, high-speed rail network.”
The Rail Baltica Global Project represents a joint initiative by Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania to create a high-speed European standard gauge railway connecting Tallinn through Riga, Panevėžys, and Kaunas to the Lithuanian-Polish border, including connections to Vilnius. This ambitious infrastructure project will significantly enhance regional connectivity and support sustainable transportation across Northern Europe.
