DB achieves top position in CDP climate rating

January 4, 2022 – 8:11 am

Deutsche Bahn will be climate-neutral by 2040. For its leadership in combating climate change, DB has been recognized by the global environmental non-profit organization CDP and has once again made the CDP’s prestigious A-list.

ICE – Germany’s fastest climate protector

According to CDP, this makes Deutsche Bahn one of the most climate-friendly companies in the world. Its A rating puts it in the top group along with more than 270 businesses. Over 13,000 companies that disclose their environmental data through CDP participated in this year’s scoring process. Deutsche Bahn has been listed in the CDP ratings since 2015

Specific targets translate to more accountability

The top rating confirms that traveling by rail is a proactive way to protect the climate. In order to achieve its goal of being climate-neutral by 2040, all of DB’s depots, office buildings, and stations in Germany will be powered entirely with green energy from 2025. By 2030, it will reduce its specific CO2 emissions by more than half compared with 2006 and raise the share of renewable energy in its traction current mix to 80%. And by 2038, all the Group’s traction power will have been transitioned to 100% renewable energy.

CDP is a London-based, non-profit, international rating organization. On behalf of its members – investors, companies and cities – it collects environmental data from businesses each year, evaluates their activities in the fight against climate change and the transparency of their reporting, and is recognized as the gold standard for corporate environmental transparency.
