Master plan to be developed for Qatari freight transport

On December 15, 2019, the Qatari Ministry of Transport and Communications (MOTC) and DB Engineering & Consulting GmbH signed an agreement to develop the Qatar Freight Master Plan (QFMP).

The project will start on January 1, 2020 with a duration of 32 months. The QFMP will examine the challenges of moving freight countrywide and propose according solutions to address those challenges. Among other information sources, extensive data will be collected through traffic counts and stakeholder surveys among ministries, government authorities and private companies in the freight and logistics industry to develop traffic models and logistics scenarios for horizon years up to 2050.

The project will also involve improving the existing GIS freight portal and adapting existing national freight regulations. The Qatar freight master plan will lay the foundation for a sustainable logistics infrastructure and contribute to the country’s goals for social equity, economic productivity, sustainability, and livable neighborhoods.
