The metro is part of the wider Integrated Public Transport Network (IPTN), which includes local and regional bus services, rail transit and bus rapid transit, and regional railways. The proposed metro network comprises four lines with approximately 19 kilometers of double-track elevated and underground lines and 12 stations between Zayed Sports City and Al Maryah. The system is equipped with CBTC, which enables driverless GoA4 operation. The central depot with all necessary maintenance facilities is designed for 42 trains with a total train length of 6,300 m.

Scope of services:

  • Stage 1 (05/2010 – 12/2013)
    • Feasibility study and concept/preliminary design
    • Design of the operational infrastructure
  • Stage 2 (01/2013 – 11/2015)
    • Project Coordination
    • Development of alternative scenarios with light rail
    • Technical specifications and urban integration and insertion for 2 typical and 2 special elevated stations
    • Design of 8 elevated and 4 underground stations for the new Abu Dhabi metro network Development of 3 design options for line stations
    • Creation of functional and performance requirement specifications
    • Extensive studies to compare between:
    • High-floor vs. low-floor vehicles
    • Train performance comparison between different voltage levels
    • Driverless system vs. system with driver as a prerequisite for decision making by the DoT (Department of Transport)
